Chrome Zone – So Cal Cruises and Drive ins

I am going to preface this article with a request that you reply with a list of cruises or links of lists in your area. Wouldn’t it be cool to find a listing of all the weekly cruises and drive-in’s all across this great country of ours! So if you’re not living in Southern California and know of some weekly gatherings of car nuts, then I invite you to list the day, time and place in as a comment for all to share. And, if you are from Southern California and see that I missed something, please feel free to add to the list.

It’s easy to take for granted that I live in Southern California. Enthusiasts throughout So Cal are treated to ‘unveilings’ of recently completed or near completed rides by the local builders. I know this happens in your neck of the woods as well, but with such an urban sprawl and rich car culture Southern California has a plethora of automotive events. You will frequently see Chip Foose at Donut Derelicts on Saturday Mornings, and Jay Leno cruising up and down Mulholland Drive. We’ve witnessed Jimmy White unveiling some masterpieces at local events and the other Jimmy “Shine’ing” it up in Pomona.

The most comprehensive list I’ve found for Southern California is Dave Lindsays site at SoCalCarCulture.com. Not only a list of events, but all kinds of cool features as well. So cruise on over and check out this extensive listing.

My Uncle Delmar made me do it. Then my two older brothers egged me on. And after we moved down to So Cal in ‘72 this 10 year old would be tested on passing vehicles on our yearly trip up the 101 and down the 5 to visit relatives in Santa Rosa. The Chevelle passes us up and as I watch the skinny tail lights disappear through the back window of the Country Squire, I’d yell out ‘68! I study the grille of the Impala following close behind and I know it’s a ‘65. Fast forward thirty years later and with a degree in Visual Communications and this artistic classic car enthusiast is living his dream creating art, design and yes even writing a word or two on the automotive industry. And with a couple of bit parts on My Classic Car, Chop Cut Rebuild and on the cutting floor of Overhaulin’. I’m very proud to share my passion for all things art and fuel with you.
