The John Force Holiday Car Show

This past season was a great one for the toy drives, charitable events and such. Each event we went to seemed to have unprecedented levels of activity. The John Force Racing Holiday Car Show was again a great hit. The streets surrounding the John Force Racing compound were lined with a variety of cars from vintage VW’s to modern Cadillacs. Some of the businessparks around had their lots full of shiney cruisers as well.

Rumors were running around last year, if the show will go on, since John moved the racing headquarters to Indy, but the museum and RaceStation store are here and the show proved a great following with the mountain of toys that were donated. The 14th annual event, boast over 25,000 spectators, each bringing a toy for the California Highway Patrol’s CHiPs for Kids Toy Drive.

Highlights of the show include two batmobiles, autograph session with the John Force Racing drivers and other celebrities including our very own Genevieve Chappell! Fans started showing up more than two hours before the start of the show and stayed well after the 4pm closing time. Thank goodness for the great southern California weather!

My Uncle Delmar made me do it. Then my two older brothers egged me on. And after we moved down to So Cal in ‘72 this 10 year old would be tested on passing vehicles on our yearly trip up the 101 and down the 5 to visit relatives in Santa Rosa. The Chevelle passes us up and as I watch the skinny tail lights disappear through the back window of the Country Squire, I’d yell out ‘68! I study the grille of the Impala following close behind and I know it’s a ‘65. Fast forward thirty years later and with a degree in Visual Communications and this artistic classic car enthusiast is living his dream creating art, design and yes even writing a word or two on the automotive industry. And with a couple of bit parts on My Classic Car, Chop Cut Rebuild and on the cutting floor of Overhaulin’. I’m very proud to share my passion for all things art and fuel with you.
