Dealing with desk potatoes

“U.S. workers spend half a billion hours per year playing (computer) games on the job, at a cost of $10 billion in lost productivity. ” This does not even counting the time “spent surfing the web at work for personal use.”

Game Developers Conference: Day 2

San Francisco, CA – So day two of the GDC Expo commences and the YouGamers team returns for more promoting, meeting with people, attending sessions and generally causing mayhem with big trucks, great T-shirts and willing supporters!

Now, the GDC is over and we’ve been to as many lectures and sessions as possible. The main thing that was very, very evident at the Expo was that PC is far from dead! Roll on Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3!

Game Developers Choice Awards

San Francisco, CA – Game Developers Choice Awards were handed out last night. The big winner was Epic’s Gears of War, walking away with awards for Best Game, Technology and Visual Arts. Our beloved PC didn’t get a whole lot of attention, but Iron Lore Entertainment did snage best New Studio honors!

“A Game Developers Choice Award is like no other award presented in the industry, as it is the only prize that gives the community the chance to appreciate and honor individual developers… By celebrating our visionaries by name, we give the audience and the public at large a chance to give credit where credit is due.”

Jamil Moledina, Executive Director
Game Developers Conference.

On a closing note, there are a lot of great looking PC titles in the works, so let’s hope they get a few more nods next year.

The Game Developers Conference

The GDC has rapidly grown into being one of the premier events in the video gaming calendar – no doubt helped by the E3 scaling down from its behemoth size and regularity. So what better place for an exciting new PC gaming website to launch and get maximum attention!

The day started with us joining the masses for the first day of the GDC Expo – the first part of the week is given over to lectures, sessions and tutorials but the last 3 days are all about meeting fellow developers, press members and enthusiasts. All of the big names in the industry were out in force showing off their latest products and services – big crowds were drawn to Sony’s and Nintendo’s stands, but lots of “ooohs” and “aaahs” could be heard from Crytek’s and Epic’s areas.

We, though, were out to get maximum attention to our new site and that meant hands-on promoting. We also had a huge truck with our flyer plastered all over it doing laps of downtown San Francisco, which turned lots of heads! WOOHOO for Futuremark Corporation & YouGamers.
